Ford F-150 Lightning

March 3rd, 2022 by

We polled our sales consultants for the most commonly asked Ford F-150 Lighting and have compiled a list below:

  • What is an F-150 Lightning?
    • It is an all electric version of the Ford F-150.
  • What is a “frunk”?
    • A front trunk where the engine would be in a regular F-150. It is 14 cubic ft and holds 400lbs of cargo.
  • How many battery options are available?
    • The standard battery has a 230 mile range with 98 kilowatt hours and the extended range has a 300 mile range with 131 kilowatt hours of battery. This is with 1,000lbs of payload.
  • With a full charge, how many days can the lightning power an average sized house?
    • If you ration it, up to a week. On average though, it would be three days.
  • Will the range improve with over the air updates?
    • We suspect that they will do that but Ford has not confirmed.
  • How much can it tow?
    • Up to 10,000lbs if it’s properly equipped with the max trailer tow package and extended range battery.
  • How does it charge and does it come with a charger?
    • Yes, the normal battery comes with a normal charger which is a little bit slower than what comes with the extended range battery. Extended range comes with Ford’s 80-amp upgraded charger. This also allows bi-directional charging which means you can power your house with that system.
  • How much does it cost to install the Ford Charge Pro Station wall box?
    • Ford is recommending SunRun to install chargers and installation costs will change depending on labor where you live.
  • How much does it cost to charge?
    • See the breakdown below:
    • What our math shows is that on average in Alabama, the Lighting can save you about $187 a month in fuel costs.
  • How do I charge my Lightning when on long road trips?
    • Ford and the FordPass app make it easy for users to find stations that are part of the BlueOval Charge Network. Currently there are 19,500 charging stations and 63,000 plugs and counting.
  • Can I use a Tesla or Rivian charger to charge my Lightning?
    • You cannot use the Tesla charger but you can use the Rivian because it’s a normal electric charger. Tesla chargers are not compatible with Ford but there is talk of adapters that will allow for charging with a Tesla charger.
  • Can I buy a Lightning off the lot without placing a reservation?
    • Possibly but it will be years in the future and will probably have a huge dealer markup.
  • Is my Lightning reservation good for multiple model years like Bronco reservations?
    • Yes, assuming you don’t get a 2022 model year, it will be carried over as a 2023.
  • When will we have one to test drive?
    • We have an idea but we do not know for sure. Hopefully we will have a mannequin soon! (fingers crossed)
  • Will there be any new colors on the Lighting as opposed to the regular F-150?
    • Yes! The only new one is the Iced Blue Silver but it is also available in Agate Black, Antimatter Blue, Atlas Blue, Carbonized Gray, Iconic Silver, Oxford White, Rapid Red, Stone Gray, Smoked Quartz, and Star White.
  • Can you get the Lightning with a moonroof?
    • Yes but only on the Lariat and Platinum trim.
  • How many pound feet of torque does it have?
    • 775lb ft of torque which is more than a regular F150. Probably the fastest F-150 Ford makes.
  • I know I can use my phone as a key but how many can I pair?
    • You can pair up to 4 phones through FordPass and Sync4 memorizes the preferred settings for each phone. This means that when you get in the truck, it will know what radio stations you like, where you’re typically going, seat adjustments, and other things that customize your experience.
  • Can I use my FordPass points for my tire rotations?
    • Yes! You can use FordPass points on anything that is a Ford part number or a Ford service at a Ford dealership.
  • Will there be any aftermarket accessories available through TCcustoms at launch?
    • Yes, there will be many different parts and accessories available. Most of the Ford Accessories F-150 parts fit the Lighting. As far as other vendors, the options may take a little longer but when they have them, TCcustoms will sell them!
