The engine in the 2013 Shelby GT500 started out as a 5.4L V8.  Ford Bored the engine to a 5.8L V8.  The engineers at SVT also changed the camshaft profiles, added piston cooling jets, higher flow fuel injectors, a larger intercooler, and they updated the heads for better cooling!  One of the larger upgrades to this engine is the TVS (Twin Vortices Series) supercharger!  This is a much more efficient Supercharger that allows for cooler operation higher flow of air and many other benefits!  This supercharger also cranks out 15 psi versus the 9 psi from the outgoing 2012 model!   
 The end result is a tire shredding 650 hp and 600 lb ft of torque!

The 2013 Ford GT500 also has many enhancements to it powertrain!  This vehicle has an upgraded cooling system to help dissipate the heat caused by this massive 5.8L V8.  The powertrain on this Shelby has an upgraded clutch to handle the extra 100 horsepower compared to the 2012 GT500.  The new '13 Shelby also has a carbon fiber driveshaft, and a strengthened transmission.  This new transmission gave Ford the opportunity to make some much needed changes to the gearing to allow for the 200 miles per hour!  In addition to the beefier transmission, the new Shelby Mustang has many upgrades to the rear axle.  The end result is an entire powertrain system overhaul!  Nearly every major component has been reviewed or reworked to handle the extra horsepower!

When you have this much power, you need to be able to (somewhat) tame it!  When you are going 200-mph you will be glad that this vehicle is fitted with Brembo brakes!  In fact this GT500 has Six piston calipers in the front and larger rotors and new brake pads all the way around!  Those brakes are standard equipment!  New for 2013, you have the option to get electronically adjustable Bilstein shocks!  Also included in the Performance Package is a Torsen Limited Slip differential, and Recaro Racing Seats.  Also don't forget to check all of the GT500 currently in stock!  

As you can see from the image above, the front end has been redesigned to handle 200 miles per hour.  Notice the new grill is more like a grill delete.  Also, you will notice that the lower opening is larger to allow for more air to enter.  Also, the lower air dam has be reworked to handle the aerodynamics needed for these top end speeds.  According to Ford, there is 30% more downforce at 160 mph!  Every part on the front end was redesigned for one purpose, and that is speed!  This new Mustang also comes with a Quad exit exhaust system!  Yes you hear me right!  The 2013 Shelby GT500 has 4 exhaust pipes!  Town & Country Ford also has a huge selection of Mustangs with some mean exhaust.  Click here to see our customized Mustangs!
